With his Chelsea team collecting just four points from their opening four Premier League fixtures, Jose Mourinho is entitled to not be in the best of moods with his reigning league champion stars.
And the 52-year-old looked suitably surly as he attended the GQ Men of the Year Awards with his teenage daughter Matilde, 18, at London's Royal Opera House on Tuesday night; the Portuguese picked up the Editor's Special Award at the ceremony hosted by legendary actor Samuel L. Jackson.
The self-dubbed 'Special One' was joined at the glitzy event by a host of household sporting names including British Formula One superstar Lewis Hamilton, Ashes hero Stuart Broad and England legend-turned Match of the Day presenter, Gary Lineker.
the Year Awards ceremony
Matilde, who was born in 1996 to Mourinho's wife, Matilde Faria, is a long-term friend of One Direction singer Niall Horan, who is an avid football fan, and she is sure to be delighted at being her famous father's 'plus one' for the party.
Mercedes AMG driver Hamilton, who put on a supreme display at Monza to win the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday and continue his domination of the current championship standings, showed up in a typically flamboyant outfit.
Dressed all in black, the 30-year-old from Stevenage wore a stylish blazer, choosing not to wear a shirt underneath, and posed with Hollywood actors Jackson and Chiwetel Ejiofor at dinnertime.
Broad, 29, who performed miracles in England's recent 3-2 Ashes Test victory over Australia, particularly at Trent Bridge, in which he recorded unprecedented bowling figures of 8-15 in the decisive Fourth Test, wore a smart tuxedo as he brought glamorous girlfriend Bealey Mitchell to the bash.
And before British music sensation James Bay took to the stage to kick off the show hosted by Pulp Fiction star Jackson, Lineker grinned like a Cheshire cat as he turned up on the red carpet for the awards. His wife Danielle was also in attendance, wearing a low-cut white dress, with patterned lace sleeves.
